Waqar Younis, the former Pakistan captain, has identified four players in the squad whom he believes can be the game-changers for Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup. Topping the list is the captain, Babar Azam, renowned for his ability to dominate any bowling attack. Alongside Babar, Waqar has singled out Shaheen Shah Afridi, Imam ul Haq, and Fakhar Zaman as potential match-winners.

During an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Waqar expressed his confidence in Pakistan’s ability to handle pressure in the upcoming World Cup. He highlighted the team’s recent experience in dealing with pressure and emphasized the importance of executing plans and skills effectively.

Waqar stated, “Pakistan has shown better resilience in handling pressure in recent times. It doesn’t matter where we play, be it in India or Pakistan, as long as we have our process in check and execute our skills and plans proficiently, we should have no issues. We have match-winners who can single-handedly turn the game in our favor. Babar, Shaheen, Fakhar, and Imam are capable of doing wonders for us. It’s about putting everything together and managing pressure effectively.”

Speaking about Pakistan’s preparations and approach towards the World Cup, Waqar acknowledged that the pressure in modern-day cricket has increased, particularly in high-stake matches like the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan. However, he commended the current players for handling pressure better and reiterated his belief in their ability to emerge victorious.

The ODI World Cup 2023 is set to begin in India on October 5, featuring ten teams. The India-Pakistan clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, initially scheduled for October 15, is likely to be rescheduled to October 14 due to Navratri celebrations.
