Dimuth Karunaratne, the captain of Sri Lanka, has provided some insight into their approach towards countering Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series.

Karunaratne acknowledged Babar’s exceptional batting skills and his status as one of the world’s top batsmen in all formats of the game. While not revealing specific details, the Sri Lankan captain expressed confidence in the team’s strategies and their potential effectiveness on the field.

The Sri Lankan team has been working on plans to handle Babar’s batting prowess. Karunaratne hinted at their intention to put pressure on him throughout both Test matches, without divulging the precise tactics.

“Babar is widely regarded as a great batsman, consistently featuring in the top rankings across all formats. We have analyzed his batting from the previous tour, understood the conditions and wickets, and devised plans accordingly. We have some strategies in place, and we hope to restrict him in the first and second Tests. We have plans for him, and we aim for them to be successful,” Karunaratne explained.

As the series commences, the Sri Lankan team will be eager to put their plans into action on the field. Their execution will be closely observed as they strive to contain Babar, a challenge that has posed difficulties for many teams worldwide.

The action-packed 2023-24 international cricket season for Pakistan will begin with the first Test of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 against Sri Lanka in Galle on Sunday. The second and final Test of the series will take place in Colombo starting from July 24.
