Cricket South Africa and BCCI confirmed the schedule for India’s tour of South Africa in December 2023.

“The highly anticipated multi-format series commencing on 10th December will showcase a thrilling lineup of cricket matches. The action-packed schedule includes three T20Is, followed by three ODIs, and culminates with two Tests, featuring the prestigious Boxing Day Test in Centurion and the New Year’s Test in Cape Town.

Kicking off the series, the three-match T20I series will serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The cities of Durban, Gqeberha, and Johannesburg have been chosen as hosts for the exhilarating twenty-over encounters. Johannesburg and Gqeberha will also welcome the first two ODIs, while the third ODI will take place in Paarl.

Expressing their anticipation, CSA Chairperson Lawson Naidoo shared, “Cricket South Africa eagerly awaits the arrival of the Indian Cricket Team and their passionate fans on our shores. This tour holds great significance for both teams, and I am delighted that we will witness a comprehensive series featuring all three formats of the game. With exceptional talent on display from both South Africa and India, we can anticipate an enthralling display of cricket and captivating matches. Furthermore, this tour provides us with an opportunity to showcase the best of South Africa as we have strategically spread out the matches across the nation. We have a strong rapport with the BCCI, and I extend my gratitude to them for their support in organizing this tour.”

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah echoed similar sentiments, stating, “The Freedom Series holds immense importance as it not only brings together two exceptional Test teams but also pays tribute to the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, two visionary leaders who shaped our nations and the world. The Boxing Day Test and the New Year’s Test are revered fixtures on the international cricket calendar, and the schedule has been thoughtfully planned around these marquee dates. India has always received tremendous support in South Africa, and I am confident that cricket enthusiasts will witness captivating contests filled with unyielding intensity.”
