Sekond Skin is seeking a Mobile Accessibility Consultant to join the team as the company prepares for its MVP launch for September 2024. The ideal candidate needs to have strong accessibility testing knowledge, communication and interpersonal skills, deep functional and technical knowledge of accessibility requirements and implementation of best practices within React. This role focuses on continuous process improvement through effective collaboration with functions across design into development and testing.
Design Accessibility – 20% of core responsibilities
– Collaborate with design and development teams to document and implement user interface components for mobile app development with accessibility best practices.
– Collaborate with product manager and UX/UI designer to translate wireframes and design mockups for developers into accessible React components through annotations and documentation.
Product Accessibility – 20% of core responsibilities
– Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Accessibility Officer to define and refine accessibility KPI’s, health, and performance metrics.
– Consult on tools and processes to enable adherence to accessibility guidelines.
– Integrate accessibility testing and consulting support into iterative, agile development processes.
– Communicate with SCRUM Master on accessibility delivery milestones and progress, keeping issues and tickets up to date.
Accessibility Testing & Consulting – 60% of core responsibilities
– Perform primary accessibility testing on the app during development, ensuring accessibility compliance and usability on key features in the app.
– Facilitate and/or perform user review/acceptance testing.
– Consult with developers on approaches to eliminate any accessibility issues during development.
Hard Skills and Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or relevant field
– Strong understanding of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as well as knowledge of U.S., Canada, and international digital accessibility laws and standards.
– 3+ years of experience with evaluating and testing websites, web applications and mobile native applications for digital accessibility conformance.
– Detailed knowledge of a broad range of technologies:
1. Accessibility on various platforms including Windows and MacOS
2. Mobile accessibility on various platforms including Android and iOS
3. Video and other digital media
4. React. Nice to have: React Native
5. Figma, Jira, Confluence, and GitHub.
– Accessibility testing experience, including but not limited to:
1. Automated accessibility testing tools and resources (axe, WAVE, etc)
2. Manual accessibility testing tools and resources with assistive technology (VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, etc)
3. Knowledge of testing best practices and approaches for custom developed and consumer off-the-shelf packaged applications for digital products.
4. Knowledge of test management processes, both functional and non-functional test planning and execution, version control and defect tracking methods using associated tools.
Soft Skills and Qualifications
– Ability to guide and coach colleagues in one on one and group environments.
– Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines with great attention to detail.
– Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Hourly Range: $15.00-$45.00
