High Ticket Prices Cause Controversy for PAK vs IND Match at T20 World Cup 2024

Pakistan and India will play on June 9th at the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. This T20 World Cup match has caused controversy because some tickets are being sold for as much as $20,000 (Rs. 55,66,180) each.

The match is part of the tournament co-hosted by the United States and the Caribbean Islands.

Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi criticized the high prices, saying the International Cricket Council (ICC) cares more about making money than promoting the game. The ICC responded that ticket prices range from $300 (already sold out) to $10,000.

Modi tweeted, “Shocked to learn that ICC is selling tickets for Diamond Club at $20000 per seat for the #indvspak WC game. The WC in the US is for game expansion & fan engagement, not a means to make profits on gate collections. $2750 for a ticket It’s just #notcricket #intlcouncilofcrooks.”

Tickets for India-Pakistan matches are always in high demand, leading to very high prices. The rivalry is intense because the two countries have not played a series against each other since 2013 due to political tensions.

Pakistan starts its World Cup journey in Dallas, playing against co-host USA on June 6, then against India on June 9 and Canada on June 12 in New York. Their last league match is against Ireland on June 16 in Florida.
